Nothing New

Posted August 11, 2008

I don't have a lot to post, but I did want to say a few things that I love about the MacBook. First off, the battery life is just insane. I spent 3 hours developing the other night on just the battery and when I was finished, I still had more than an hour left on my MacBook. My Vaio would have pooped out after an hour... Maybe less.

Second off, it doesn't overheat easily. After three hours of hard processing on my MacBook's end, the bottom of it still felt bearable to the skin on my legs.

I've mentioned how much I love the camera already, but I'll say it again. It is awesome -- it takes real images. The ones you see in the mirror when you look into it, not the weird looking pictures that look nothing like you that the digital cameras do.

I finally see what everyone was saying about Macs now. I won't turn this into a Mac versus PC bull shit debate, since they just shouldn't be compared. It's like comparing a car to a truck, or a domestic to an import... A Starbucks coffee to a Tim Horton's...

I'm Not a Designer

Work in progress to the left.   Now stop bugging me *cries*

That one shall be a viviti layout as soon as I spiff it up a bit more and figure out a way to add components to it in an pleasing way.

I Love my Mac

Posted August 2, 2008

Not really love just yet, but I thought I would keep the theme of "I blank Mac" in my blog post titles.

I do love the camera that is built into the mac. I find it to capture things more realistically than other digital imaging devices. For example, a lot of digital cameras catch me looking like someone I never met before while the Mac's camera captures me pretty well, though my eyes are not nearly as blue as the Mac shows (see the recent image).

Onto other things... I know I said was camping this weekend, but we came home to give our daughter a nap before we head back to he campsite. We had some business in the next town over after work yesterday and so she stayed overnight at her grandparent's house and we grabbed her this morning.

Happy birthday to me (yesterday), by the way! In case anyone cares, haha... It was a pretty uneventful birthday... Very strange being the first birthday without a certain someone whom passed away in October. All is good though -- the cycle of life :)

I Have a Mac

Posted August 1, 2008

Wahoo! Though I'm not horribly excited about it just yet, because I will be camping all weekend after working all day so I will not be able to use my awesome new Macbook for a while. Monday or Tuesday, I'll be jumping into Objective-C and then all the fun blog posts can begin.

I got it just yesterday and am now trying to find a sleeve for it. :D

I Need a Mac

Posted July 28, 2008

I need a Mac! Well, I don't need a Mac, but I'd really love to get one so that I can jump into Objective-c. I have been waiting on my replacement mastercard card to get here in the mail so that I can hop on over to FutureShop London Drugs to pick myself up a spankin' new Macbook. It should only be a few more days, I hope!

If it comes tomorrow, I'll be a little bummed, since I have plans to go climbing after my daughter's bedtime with some people from work and my brother. In other words, I'd be too busy to use the thing! Wednesday would be good... Actually, Thursday would be perfect, since I could run down for some grocery shopping while I'm out of town grabbing the laptop :D

Ramble, ramble... If you've made it this far, perhaps I can reward you with this nifty tidbit I found on Slash Dot. It is an article about how the Brainy Gamers are dieing down as a new generation of "Lazy" gamers are being born. I use the term Lazy not in its literal sense, but in the sense that they are searching for instant gratification, which is easy to understand :P Here is the article.

Happy Planet: Abundant Gag

Posted July 24, 2008

I recently started visiting a health food store here in town and I came accross a brand called Happy Plannet, which is a natural company -- organic, no preservatives, and all that good stuff. I tried their berry drinks and they were pretty yummy after the initial few sips.

Gag

Yesterday, I picked up their drink Abundant C, which tastes like Abundant Arse. Alright, not quite, but it has a pre-taste of gasoline, then tastes a little bit like oranges, but a lot like roses. After drinking it, I felt like rabbit that had ravished a rose garden.

So, there you go. A little warning not to try Abundant C from Happy Planet... Unless you like harming yourself and your taste buds, you cruel being.

Twitter

Posted July 21, 2008

The Twitter component keeps acting strange. Twitter, itself, is acting strange. They need some new servers and a few administrators to get that website up and running properly.

Every time I visit Twitter, I get the overloaded message, so I think it's safe to assume that my -- and possibly your -- Twitter component on Viviti isn't working properly due to an interruption in the RSS feed.

I wonder... Are there any Twitter alternatives out there?

When Using Linux...

Posted July 21, 2008

Viviti looks like poop if you don't have the proper windows fonts installed, which you should have installed regardless. Unless you appreciate websites breaking in your browser left, right, and center!

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

Just a quick post to get that out there before I go back to tinkering with Twitter.

Introduction

Introductions are lame

But let's do one, anyway! What's the point of visiting a website if you don't know whom the site is about, anyway?

I am a 24-year-old mother of one 2-year-old and a girlfriend to a Ruby geek. You probably know him, but let's just keep this a little anonymous for now ;)

I'm going to make this my techy blog... I have no use for a personal blog anymore, but I will take you all though my journey of learning new programming languages. My latest endeavor is Objective-C for obvious reasons -- the iPhone was just released and it looks like a fairly easy language for me to learn, considering my background.

I'll also be using this blog to showcase a few templates I have planned for this site. Currently, I'm using a default as I haven't yet read through the documentation for templating this service.

Wrapping up this short post here so that I can continue on with my customization and checking out viviti.
